A few things I will probably get in trouble for sharing . . .

I have had a hard time writing lately. It isn't that nothing is happening, it is just that my family doesn't like me telling the world about their lives.

For instance a few posts ago I mentioned that we were expecting a new grandbaby in August. Since it was pretty much announced to everyone at the family Christmas party, I didn't think it mattered if I mentioned it on my blog. But apparently Camille had not yet told any of her friends so when they read it on my blog and called/emailed her about it, she was FURIOUS with me.

Actually, FURIOUS might be a bit of an understatement.

I really did feel bad. I didn't want to steal any of her thunder. But now she has posted about it herself, so I am authorized to say . . . Camille is pregnant and due in August. This will be her second child and we are so very excited!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But, . . . that experience made me bit apprehensive to share another event that has been happening in our family. A BOYFRIEND.
One of my daughters at BYU--who shall currently remain nameless :-) has met a young man she is interested in and I am DYING to meet him. I mean seriously----when they have gone from dating once a week to seeing each other every day I think it is time for us all to meet.
But until that happens, I have been getting reports from other family members. The younger sister has met him and thinks he is great. And yesterday my parents had lunch with him. Afterward my mother called in her report and my father sent an email listing his many positive observations--with the final comment that the boy got his vote.
And of course, I have also checked him out on Facebook. Unfortunately he isn't much of a FB person, so all I have been able to find out from there is that he likes to fish. A Lot. Almost every picture he posted, had a fish in it. Which is why I told my daughter that I am not going to take the relationship too seriously until she replaces the fish in his pictures. :-) Then I will be speed dialing Southwest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Lastly--for this post . . . I have been spending a lot of time working on my "healthy life style" goal. I have been exercising twice a day almost every day and searching --and then preparing--healthy meals for my family.

They have eaten a lot of salads, chicken, fish, brown rice, quinoa, and fresh fruit and veggies. They were brave with the spicy black bean soup and even ate my homemade totally from scratch (as in fresh tomatoes) spaghetti sauce where I sneaked in some butternut squash.

Although I kept waiting for them to ask why their plate turned orange.

It has been working for me as I have also lost 12 pounds (hooray, hooray!) and I thought they were also enjoying the meals as both my husband and daughter had expressed a desire to be healthier as well.

But . . . apparently not complaining is not the same as enjoying.

Last Friday I offered to cook dinner instead of eating out so we could save money and I would be in control of what we ate. My husband suggested that it was good for us to eat out so I could have a break from cooking. I told him that I didn't need a break and as we were going out with friends Saturday night anyway, I could have my break then.

But he insisted we eat out. It was after all, out of consideration for me that he was suggesting it. He even called our neighbors and invited them to come with us.

Then he ordered mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cob and a large plate of greasy, honey barbecue, deep fried chicken fingers. And he ate it all.

And then exclaimed, "It feels so good to EAT!"

Say what?

It's not like I have been starving him. He was welcome to eat as much of that salad as he wanted. :-)

So I am headed back to the cookbooks. I found a WW recipe for Cuban pork and sweet potatoes that I am going to try out tomorrow.

Sounds yummy to me!

I know what you mean! I have had to change blog entries before because my 10 year old didn't approve!!! Children need to just realize that moms will always talk about their kids (no matter how old--or young--they are)!

I get in trouble for sharing to much too. Congratulations to Camille! Exciting boyfriend news!! So proud of you for your healthy lifestyle. I've been making some healthy changes too. Change IS good!

SO funny to measure a relationship based on how you compare to a fish! Good luck on the boyfriend and the baby fronts.

Are you looking to cut fat, calories, sugar, or all of them? I have an awesome sweet and sour chicken recipe that is very low in fat, but it is made with sugar. Even my kids love it. Good job on the butternut squash! My kiddos complained when I added pureed veggies to sauces until I told them they could have them in the sauce or as a side dish. No one complains anymore about them in the sauce! Good luck!

Exercising twice a day--very impressive. You definitely earned every one of those 12 pounds shed. Healthy eating is not easy either. Way to go!

I too have had to wait and make sure it is allright to post things. There is a fine line sometimes :-D That is why I try to talk about life from just my point of view on my blog.
Good for you exercising and eating right! I was just introduced to quinoa - where have I been? You know how you find out about something you have never heard of and all of a sudden start seeing it everywhere - Bammm that is what this past week has been like. I definately need to incorporate that into my diet pronto!
Congrats to Camille on the new boyfriend - it might be your turn next to plan a wedding!
Hope you have a great week!

I can relate to your post. I, too, have a daughter who is dating a guy seriously and I haven't met him yet! They're both going to the U. I've invited them for dinner next Sunday. We'll see how that goes!

I have been trying to eat more healthy meals (except the peanut M&Ms I've been eating tonight). I found a recipe for pumpkin chili. It has pureed pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice in it along with beans, tomatoes, chili powder, zucchini, mushrooms, etc. I made a double batch. I had to run to the store so I told my hubby that the chili was in the crock pot and if he was starving when he got home, he could have a bowl of it. When I got home from the store, he was making scrambled eggs and ham. When I questioned him about the chili, he said, "It tastes....different!" I've been eating pumpkin chili every day this past week!
I better get your recipe for the meal you're preparing tomorrow! :-)

Ha! Well, the cat is definitely out of the bag for sure!
Sounds like your healthy choices are paying off! It's hard to eat healthy and please everyone. But there are some great recipes out there on the web! Good luck!

Ahhh sharing too much. I am guilty.
I have been known to publish and then remove a blog post afterwards b/c I reconsidered if it was too personal.
SO yea, I totally get that.
Good for you on the new healthy lifestyle! Twice a day?! I'm doing good for twice a week!

Ok I was laughing so hard I almost fell out of my chair about Uncle Wes's response to healthy eating- that is just like Neil. He wont ever complain but about an hour after a healthy dinner he pulls out all the snacks and has at it. Way to go losing 12 pounds! That is great. I am at the point in my pregnancy where I can't wait to hit the elliptical again and actually be able to see my feet from a standing postition.

Yep, it's good to be careful on the sharing too much of the family thing. Mine are pretty tolerant, but I check with them when I'm not sure.

Sounds like some exciting things are happening in your life!

=)

First - Congratulations over all the good news!

As for the what to post dilemma... Oh gosh! I keep wanting to post things, and then I wonder what the kids would think if they knew. And then I post something and hope they won't mind if they know! :o LOL!~ But hey... part of the beauty of blogging is that it feels like an avenue for CELEBRATING! :D And let's face it, isn't that what makes life so much fun!!!!? :DDD

PS I'm so glad you came by my blog today, because you enjoyed it, and your comment brought me here; I absolutely LOVED reading this! Thanks so much for sharing, and way to go with the positive and healthy lifestyle!!!

See you again soon... :)

I am so proud of you for cooking so healthy and loosing so much weight! I would love to be able to loose 12 lbs. Problem is I'm not willing to work out twice a day....or once a day for that matter! You're an inspiration!

I can relate to the family being upset about appearing in my blog. It certainly makes things hard, doesn't it?

I loved this post. I know exactly what you mean about posting something that your children didn't want you to post. Our family has actually had facebook wars and dirty laundry has come out. It is really sad. Therefor, I am not that fond of facebook any more; but I haven't deleted it yet. I like blogs more.
I need to follow your example of exercising. We are working on eating in a more healthy way.
The news on your children was fun.
Blessings to you! LeAnn

I love your blog!! I have been trying to eat healthier too- and I am useing the "make it fast, cook it slow" cookbook, it is from the blogger that did a year of crock pot meals. They are all healthy and I thought my family was doing just fine, till I had one flop bad enough to order pizza and my kids DEVOURED that pizza. And I would say it said "it feels so good to eat!!" and I figure if the food isn't as "yummy" they only eat till they are full. Which is healthier. I am down 6 lbs which is pretty good. I am hoping to endure the "not complaining" about my meals too. I love the variety, and LOVE how Good my body feels after eating good food!
